BLURB:
I bought this from a guy in Sydney around 2000. He also had an OB-Xa…but he refused to sell it. He used these two delicious machines in a cover band…yup, A COVER BAND. This FOOL put gaffer tape on this beautiful machine. He left it on there for several years. The gaffer tape is now baked on. One day i will find him. He will die a HORRIBLE DEATH.
This is the second Jupiter-8 I own. It works like a dream. It has MIDI – it actually had the DCB thingy removed and replaced with a Groove MIDI retro fit. The MIDI retro is brilliant! I can control basically everything via MIDI.
I used this Jupiter-8 in the BLIPVERT. The first Jupiter 8 sounds a little different…and I believe it to contain MAGIC (I kid you not), but more on that machine later…
Most Angelspit songs are composed on the Jupiter-8s. Many tracks contain Jupiter-8…most of the track “Black Wine” is Jupiter-8 along with the big bass sound “100%” (both from Krankhaus). You can read more info on the recording process of “100%” here.
PROS:
It sounds like Angels having sex. Sometimes they’re making soft and gentle “love”, sometimes they’re having a good hard BANG. Dear Lord Baby Jesus, thank you for creating the Jupiter-8.
CONS:
I don’t own 3 (!!). Plus, the Groove MIDI retro reacts weirdly to portamento (MIDI CC05)…and we use a lot of portamento.
HINT:
It has a unison button with makes it sound absolutely MAMMOTH. We don’t use this button anymore because it’s just too huge. I’m serious. It makes huge-amazing-mammoth frequencies and you can’t hear anything else in the mix. Regular Jupiter-8 is enough…DON’T PUSH THAT BUTTON!!!
…and when you’re in space, DO NOT ANSWER THE DISTRESS BEAKON!!! IT’S A TRAP!!!
