Auxiliary Magazine’s Rocki Lee sinks her teeth into Angelspit’s album THE PRODUCT
ANGELSPIT – THE PRODUCT
After a decade since their debut album, KRANKHAUS, Angelspit has shown no lull in committing aural violence over the years. With their new release THE PRODUCT, the band showcases new lyrical structures, complex guitar chords, and guest collaborators. However none of this is at the expense of Angelspit’s signature flavor.
The track list kicks off with a dark, high energy anthem called “Hot Mess”. The song is built upon Angelspit’s infamous distorted beats but also features rock-style guitars by Angelspit’s own George Bikos. “Hot Mess” sets the tone for the album; a work comprised of Angelspit’s traditional glitching, grinding goodness, and laced with new melodic touches in both the musical and vocal arenas. Tracks like “Baal Arise”, “Velocity”, and “Train Wreck” deliver a specific fury through a synthesis of distorted retro drum work, and Angelspit’s newest group members, the EMAX I and EMAX II. Together these elements achieve a darkly futuristic twist on 1990s style industrial. THE PRODUCT offers a more sensory experience with things like dueling major and minor scales, and complex lyrical meter through which a multidimensional effect is achieved. Featuring guest collaborations with artists like Helalyn Flowers, Steve Jones, Chant, Tehnocracy, and the haunting Miss Ballistic, THE PRODUCT incorporates an array of stylistic mixtures too sweet for virgin ears. There are not many bands that keep their edge through their musical growth, but THE PRODUCT proves that Angelspit will always have theirs sharpened. I hope to see this band inflict chaos for many years to come.
