Translated from Croatian.
Exactly ten years after the publication of his first official album (Krankhaus, published 06.06.2006.), “New school” industrial project Angelspit released his new album entitled “Cult Of Fake“. This is also their sixth studio album, not counting Nurse Grenade in 2004 that for some reason the water as EP.
Through its official channels on social networks Angelspit are “Cult Of Fake” announced as their “first dance album.” The announcement is fulfilled in terms of “dance”, but it was not possible to meet on the question of “first” of this album. In fact, I think their music is generally very dance, so it emphasizes the dance of the album itself is nothing new. It should be recognized that on this album more than usual present some sounds that we normally expect an ordinary EDM, but due to the merger of these sounds with hardcore rhythms, dark industrial atmospheres and well delivered vocals still would not expect to hear any song with this album in the average discotheque. Perhaps, and this is very much MAY, would only song On the List (She’s Not) could be expected in such a setting, but also difficult. It is in fact evident and strong punk attitude of this album.
Such a feeling contributions and texts. As in the best tradition of (post) punk and industrial aesthetics, “Cult Of Fake” also deals with political issues in a way that will give the impression of mere political propaganda. The songs on this album in the wake of associative writing, quoting, intertextuality, self-reference, found poetry and other techniques that can be seen with (neo) avant-garde (and postmodern) poetry. As the “Cult Of Fake” was still under construction, Zoog Von Rock (text, vocals, electronics) is the social networking wrote eg. That the lyrics for this album largely collage comments of fans and haters on their official channels of communication, as well as interviews that would be heard before and after concerts.
As a result, rather than to serve a political pamphlet or moral sermon, these texts amount to a series of images, questions, statements as a kind of emotional triggers that make the listener / reader any profile or might offend or make the active consideration and make their own conclusions. This fact would could disturb the fans clear and unambiguous poetic communication, so it definitely does not work on the material for such an audience.
The impression of chaos texts and loudness of music with which songs are excellent permeate. And there certainly is laudable and dual vocals, which became the trademark Angelspit. Many of their songs, as on this album and before him, often used vocals or two or two-channel recording of the same vowels, with every vocal channel raises the same text at the same time with the other, but each in its own way, in different tones, different emotional charges, etc., which leaves an impression that is duplicated in this aesthetic sounds just hit.
A kind of division at the listener special causes and song Disaster Porn, which the cheerful melody and rhythm talking about really gloomy darkness manufacturing consent through fetish disaster, then – “disaster porn”.
All in all, Cult of Fake is a very good album, and is a stand out piece of work for Angelspit. With regard to the release date, exactly ten years after the first album, the comparison with the beginnings of the band’s activities is inevitable. In this regard, I am pleased to see a shift away from the former fetish mad doctors and nurses and failed medical experiments, in favor of a greater focus on political aesthetics, who was also present from the very beginning.
Hard, or dance electronic music, at the same time dark and incentives, remains constant at Angelspit, with small variations that are sufficient to from album to album would not be bored, but not so much to divert fans reluctant drastic changes.
Cult of Fake is available for listening and purchase on Bandcamp. And after you have listened to the album, you can see the first video from the album, for the song New Devil, which further emphasizes the general orientation of the band to the present day:
