Dark Spy Magazine (Germany) interviews Angelspit
"We wanted to make something that reflected our experience at that time – living in glorious Berlin, being surrounded by so many amazing cultures and languages of Europe. Musically, we were more inspired by the new electro…and applying our punk attitude."

ANGELSPIT Interview with Tegra Rose
ZooG talk Politics, God and Star Trek...

How long have you been in the music business?

Since 1989. My first band was an electro punk band that busked. We wore all white, painted our faced white and did cyberpunk covers of 80s songs. We sucked (big time!!), we were beyond terrible...it was AWESOME!

I also have a Degree in Contemporary Music (Jazz, Classical, LAtin and ROCK). I use it as toilet paper.

What inspired you?

The current state of world politics. The head space of many people - our generation does not seem to be dreaming or striving…just working and following a prescribed mindset. I blame television and the internet for pumping rubbish down our throats…and I blame us for swallowing it.

What bands influenced you?

Skinny Puppy, Sonic Youth, Marilyn Manson, NIN, The Prodigy, Henry Fucking Rollins, 90s Grunge.

Whats your take on Religion?

I think religion is an important thing for keeping a community together. Unfortunately there are some extremist morons out there, but mostly religion does some very positive things. Look at the Salvation Army, St Vincent’s’. People need community and extended family. Some people find this at church, others find it in the Goth/Industrial community.
Me personally – it’s a HUGE universe out there. It’s important to always remember that ultimately “I don’t know – I do not have the facts”. There might be a God, there might be Heaven and Hell, there might be ghosts and aliens, but ultimately “I don’t know – I do not have the facts”.
Life is a brilliant game – you must always play it!

Whats your take on Politics?

I agree with Whiston Churchill:
“Democracy is the worst form of politics, except for all the others”

Did your child upbringing have any effect on the music you make now?

Definitely. I was bought up in a country town. I made go-carts, catapults and high-powered sling shots out of metal. I would pull washing machines apart, helped my dad restore his vintage car (1918 Oakland C) and learnt to arc weld when I was 11 – all I wanted for my 12th birthday was an industrial vertical drill press!
When I was 14 I had saved up enough money to by my first synthesizer (a Casio CZ-3000)….and it was all down hill from there!

If you were the president what laws would you make?

...of the USA? I’m not an American, so I am a little hesitant on commenting on the affairs of the United States.

...but regardless of the country, I think I’d be pushing the following agendas:

Voting would be compulsory. It is compulsory in Australia and I think it works brilliantly.

A large percent of the Military budget would be spent on Health Care, Social Welfare, Schools and Education.

More strict control on the access to Firearms

Increased budget to space exploration. (I'm serious!)

If you were the President what song would you make the nation anthem?

The theme to Star Trek (Original).
Everyone would recite the opening dialogue, then hum the theme…god, that would ROCK!
